I sat on the railing
just under the porch edge
A silver sheet
streamed
like a shimmering curtain
to my stage.
And I, behind it,
awaited my cue.
In the distance grew
a growling tympany,
stirring the audience
with a drumroll,
throwing its voice
east
to west.
I accepted the introduction and
stepped forth.
The shuttered sky
opened into light,
as I stood
soaking in
the thunderous ovation.

I adore rain. I am madly taken with it. Give me loud and scary thunders to make me sit up and take notice. Blast my eyes, and then blind my thoughts with brilliant lightening flashes. Or let me swim in warm waters while chilled drops fall and bounce all around me. It feels so good. I would like to fall asleep feeling a spray of raindrops as they crash into a nearby screen, and then blow themselves to smithereens to become a mist which gently lands to softly kiss my face, like a kind and genteel lover. I so adore rain.
Way Re: Re: Rain Theatres
Way,
I never realized how much I love rain until I got older and suddenly I found that all sunny days are alike. It is only our storms that come steeped in personality, taking over a day and bending it one way and then the other, only the rain speaks, only the rain whispers secrets. We have come to an understanding, the rain and I. Re: Rain Theatres

To live in a dry country is to learn to love the rain and I do so. But to do as you have done and find the beauty of rain even though a much-watered climate is all you have ever known, now that is something special. You write of it as a friend, as one who knows the secrets of its drama and moods, and it is entirely fitting that you should liken it to a play. You are all poetry and poetry becomes you.
And now I am Gone again. Re: Re: Rain Theatres
As always, a generous comment. Thank you.
Re: Rain Theatres
He is gone, and I am back; we two be circular?
I seldom return for another helping But when the chow so beckons I feel compelled to thank the cook Who spiced it well, I reckons. That tasted superb to me, Ned, even so much better after my second read. What a joy to lean back relaxed against the wall of a clapboarded porch, and then watch another child filling herself with focused determination. I sat there smiling when she ran, and shivered from chills. Re: Re: Rain Theatres
You may well be circular, I certainly start to feel dizzy.
For the second time, your comment is better than the post. I am very glad you felt the emotion of the thing, the high drama yet all in a playful spirit. Now, being a bit hungry myself, I must rush off to your blog for a bit of a snack. I wonder what today's specials are? Re: Rain Theatres
Oh, and (blush) don't bother getting up...I found my way to the kitchen, you see. :p
Re: Re: Rain Theatres
Indeed.

i love this one also though I'm not fond of rain, I'm more for the sun but this one makes the rain spak thru your soul.
I noticed you do a lot of free verses. Very nice. |
